About Yzerfontein

Yzerfontein is a small harbour town on the west coast of South Africa about 90km north of Cape Town. The name in Dutch or Afrikaans means "Iron Fountain".
The main sources of income are tourism (especially during the wildflower season from August to October) and fishing.

Southern Right, Humpback whales and dolphins are regularly seen from all parts of Yzerfontein. They start arriving in September for the calving season.

Yzerfontein is known for its pristine Sixteen Mile Beach, the longest uninterrupted sandy beach on the South African coastline, stretching north from the main beach of the town to the West Coast National Park.

Dassen Island is less than 10km offshore and is the preferred breeding ground to the majority of African Penguins in the world.

A drive through the West Coast National Park is not be missed, especially during Wildflower season from August to mid October.
